The Fifth Elephant includes a series of meetups, hacknights and workshops leading up to the main event. This event is in Bangalore and is open for all.

The Headstart Network and HasGeek are co-hosting Startup Saturday on July 14 with a focus on data.

When: July 14, 2012, 9 AM to 1 PM
Where: The Energy & Resources Institute, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, next to Domlur Club, Domlur 2nd Stage, Bangalore – 560 071

Startup Saturdays are monthly meetups for entrepreneurs. This edition coincides with the Bangalore Data Hacknight, which begins right after the Startup Saturday ends, and is located around the corner. Here’s their description:

Theme: Data

The “Information Age” sparked unprecedented rise in the use of data and analytics in all industries. Just how companies create and process large volumes of data might be an interesting question for entrepreneurs and engineers. Given the important role played by data in almost all verticals — government (Palantir), social (Twitter/Facebook), information (Google), ERP (SAP) — we think it’s something worth doing a Startup Saturday on!

While the agenda may take some time to come up, it shall be our endeavor to leave you with the following:

  1. A gentle introduction to Big Data, Data Mining, Machine learning and Analytics, covering buzzwords like Hadoop, Storm, Linq, Big Data, Cassandra, Mongo DB, Redis etc. Remember, it’s not a tutorial or workshop. Given the technical nature of this theme, it would be good to cover some ground with the basics.
  2. Meet local entrepreneurs who are already working on data and big data, and learn from their experiences.
  3. Networking as usual.
